Northern California Tankhouses

Fort Bragg Tankhouse
Fort Bragg Tankhouse

This large tankhouse is situated alongside a busy highway in Fort Bragg, California, North of Mendocino. The homeowner ended up with quite a large dwelling after building additions to the tankhouse. It was painted a dark brown color and was used as a home at the time I did this drawing. When visiting in that area a few years later, I noted it had been converted to an Art Gallery.Tan

Eureka Tankhouse

The owner of this tankhouse built a small garage within the trestle and left the water tank atop this tidy structure. The tankhouse, painted a sparkling white, is located in Eureka, California.

Sacramento Delta Tankhouse
Sacramento Delta Tankhouse

This graceful, octagonal tankhouse emerged from a platform along those interesting dike roads out in the area of the Sacramento River Delta in California. A lovely combination of interesting windows, wooden railings and pristine ivory paint complement this well designed tower. Drawn in 1977.

Exxon Tankhouse
Exxon Tankhouse

It was not hard to spot this super-tall, four-story building along a major highway in Northern California near the Oregon border. It caught the eye of some enterprising advertising fellow who had his company's logo splashed up high and very visible. The red paint was faded, but the Exxon logo was still doing its job. Ten years after I did this drawing, I had trouble finding the tankhouse again. It probably has been demolished and replaced by a shopping mall.
